Linda Jane Cook

Linda Jane Cook (Scheffer), age 72, of Erie, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021. She was born in McCaysville, GA on July 30, 1948, daughter of the late Charles and Lillian A. Davis Cook.

Linda was a well-educated woman, earning a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She retired from a rewarding and successful career of over 35 years as an Air Quality Specialist with the Department of Environmental Protection. She had a life-long thirst for knowledge, and thoroughly enjoyed reading. Linda was an avid golfer and had attended many Masters Tournaments.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond K. Scheffer. She will be missed by her cousins, John Cochran Jr., Murphy (Mac) McBrayer Jr., Ben Reed, Elanor Bruce, Rita Harper, and Jessie Reed; dear friends: Bill, Patricia, Jeremy, and George; and her beloved cats: Chloe, Daphne, and Sally.

Funeral services: Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 2:00 pm from the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Taylor and Myron Turner officiating. Linda will lie in-state at the church from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
She will be laid to rest in the Hemptown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Danny Brown, Jim Crawford, Jerry Williams, Bill Nash, Buck Barclay, and Gary Rogers.
