Lily Louise (Denzler) Borchers (94) passed away at home in Peachtree on February 28th. She was the beloved wife of Albert O. Borchers, and beloved mother of Karen Lily Borchers.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 26, 1920 to Carl Rheinhold Denzler and Elizabeth Schneider Denzler. Her father was Swiss; her mother was Hungarian. She married Albert Oscar Borchers on January 28, 1939, and they had one daughter, Karen. She worked in personnel and payroll at Woodall Industries in Detroit, and Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan, and later as an Executive Secretary for the State of Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Charities of Michigan, and Walter Neller Insurance, all in Lansing, Michigan. She and her husband moved from Michigan to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1978 to join their daughter who was then Executive Director of the Children's Home Society. They particularly enjoyed European travels, and singing great choral works with the Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches. Lily was a volunteer for many years for the Children's Home Society and for its thrift shop.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Albert, in 1998, after 59 years of marriage. She moved with her daughter Karen to Murphy, NC in 2000. Survivors include her daughter, sister-in-law Lois Denzler, and eight nieces and nephews: Arlene (Denzler) Saufferer; Jonny Lee (Denzler) Tomes, Carla (Denzler) LaNois, Dorian (Denzler) Yant, Denise (Denzler) Van Sloten, Darryl (Denzler) Vore, Carl Denzler, Jr. and William Denzler, Jr.
A celebration of her life will be held in her home with family and friends on Tuesday, March 2nd at 1:00 pm. Donations may be made to the United Way of Cherokee and Clay Counties, P.O. Box 1658, Murphy, NC 28906 or Valley River Humane Society, 7450 US Highway 19, Marble, NC 28905.
