The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces Funeral Services for Mrs. Lillie "Geneva" Gantt, age 88 of Blairsville who passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Union County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born in Towns County on April 10, 1926 to the late James T. Cheek and Lillie (Burrell) Cheek of Young Harris, Georgia. Geneva lived most of her adult life in Cramerton, NC with her husband, Robert and son, Roger. After the passing of her husband, she and her son moved to Blairsville to be closer to relatives. This hard working lady was known for her family values, and being a baker of delicious cakes. Before her retirement, she worked many long hours at Burlington Mills in Cramerton. She was a devoted Christian of the Baptist faith.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: son, Roger Gantt, sister, Lougene Lance and many nieces and nephews.Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and siblings, Bessie Mae Miller, Wilma Brown, JT Cheek, Ruby Nelson, Lenora Wright, and Wayne Cheek.
The family would like to thank Union County Nursing Home and Dr. Heaton for their kindness and excellent care of Lillie Geneva. God has Blessed us with such wonderful and caring doctors and nurses at our nursing home in Blairsville.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. R.L. Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until the service begins. Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. on at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, North Carolina with Pastor John Gibbs officiating the Graveside Services. A second visitation for family will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Carothers Funeral Home, 312 West Second Ave. in Gastonia.
