Lillian McKenzie Stevens Garner
Lillian McKenzie Stevens Garner of Blue Ridge passed away at her home on January 27, 2011. She was born November 26, 1937 in Montezuma, Ga, the daughter of the late Earl McKenzie, Jr., and Ruth McMath, (formerly of Americus, Ga). Lillian had been a nurse for over 30 years, and was an avid volunteer for pet rescue for over 40 years, having been the former president of the Gilmer-Fannin Humane Society, Gateway Pet Rescue, and Happy Endings Pet Rescue. She was also associated with many other pet rescue organizations, including Homeward Bound, Second Chance, and others.
Lillian attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She graduated from Northside High School in Atlanta and was a longtime resident of Atlanta before moving to Blue Ridge in the 1970s. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Morganton, Ga.
She is survived by two sons, Scott McKenzie Stevens of Cumming, Ga, (two grand daughters Caroline Layne Stevens and Katherine Elizabeth Stevens) and Clayton Russell Stevens of Blue Ridge (grand daughter Ansley Nicole Stevens), and she is survived by her husband Ralph Garner of Blue Ridge. She is also survived by one brother, Dr. Earl McKenzie, III, of Tallahassee, Florida.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., at Temple Baptist Church, 28 High Country Circle, Morganton, Georgia 30560.
