Mr. Lewis Weldon Willis, age 81 of Blairsville, GA, and Jacksonville, FL, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008 at his residence, after a long illness.
Mr. Willis was born Wednesday, July 28, 1926 in Ty Ty, Georgia to the late Cecil Willis and the late Edith Wood Willis. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, serving aboard the USS Cimmaron in the Pacific. He graduated from the University of Georgia and received his Master's Degree in Public Health from Tulane School of Medicine. He was a supervisor of health for 30 years over North East FL. After retirement, he built a cabin in the north Georgia mountains and loved every minute of it. He was preceded in death by brothers, Palmer and Van Willis and sister, Hilda White.
Survivors include: wife of 57 years, Betty Barbee Willis of Blairsville, GA, son, Russell Willis of Blairsville, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Rev. Clifford and Liz Willis of Fort Mills, SC, son, Stephen Willis of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren, Justin Self, Nathan Self, Joel Willis, Danielle Willis and Shannon Bennett, great grandchildren, Caiden, Cory and Ella Dawn Self, brother, Lee Willis of Crystal River, FL, brother, Marcus Willis of Gatlinburg, TN, sister, Joyce Barber of Puyallup, WA, sister, Virginia Hall of Morrow, GA, sister, June Gilbert of Mt. Pleasant, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. from the St. Luke's Episcopal Church with Rev. Victor Morgan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to your local Alzheimers Associaton.
