Lewis Oliver Merritt

Lewis  Oliver  Merritt, age 91 of Hiawassee, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. Mr.  Merritt was born May 11, 1930, in Decatur, GA, to the late Ulice Merritt and Claire Mitchell Merritt. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Young Harris, and Hiawassee Masonic Lodge. He had spent most of his working life as a Brick Mason. He was a big Fats Domino Fan, an Avid NASCAR, and Atlanta Braves Fan. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Merritt.

Survivors include: daughter, Sandra Wages, son, Randall Merritt, daughter, Cathy Patterson, son, Barry Merritt, daughter, Ann Moseley, Brother, Willis Merritt, sisters, Marion Wimberly,  Elizabeth  Covington, and Dotsy Howard, Thirteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services: Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with the Rev. Tommy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow on Sunday at 2:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. Pallbearers: Jamie Wages, Randy Merritt, Barry Merritt, Josh Minnoia, Jay Minnoia, and Chuck Patterson.  

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Saturday, March 19, 2022, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
