Mr. Lester Deaver, age 80, of native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, July 21st, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Deaver was drafted into the U.S. Army, and worked in the motor pool. Lester possessed an innate understanding of all things mechanical, along with a curiosity of the world surrounding him. Mr. Deaver was a collector of sorts, especially BMW motorcycles, bicycles, sewing machines, typewriters - all of which he could easily repair. Lester worked for Lee Holt Ford as their head mechanic. He hand made lots of whirligig windmills. Everyone who knew Lester knew that he had a love of learning. He was an avid reader of non-fiction, including encyclopedias and Popular Mechanics. He was eccentric and unbelievably intelligent, and was a natural problem solver. Lester could discuss any topic with many different types of people, and his shop was always a place of congregating for the discussion of varied topics. Lester loved animals, plants and trees and could identify almost every single one of them. He enjoyed traveling all around the United States, going to singing conventions.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 10 years, Elsie Hunter Deaver; his mother, Pearl Deaver; and a half-brother, Tom Deaver.
Surviving family members include two cousins, Billie Deaver Young and Mary Deaver Twiggs; and second cousins, Tim Deaver, Robin Deaver, and Jim Elliott; numerous other extended relatives and a host of friends also survive.
A Memorial Service was held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home where remembrances were shared by those in attendance. The family received friends from 11 am until the service began. Interment will occur at a later date at Ivy Log Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ivy Log Cemetery Fund, 36 Jamie Gray Lane, Blairsville, GA 30512 or to Humane Society's Mountain Shelter, P.O. Box 1252, Blairsville, GA 30514.
