The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mr. Lawson Edward Russell, age 93 of Hiawassee, GA who passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Lawson was born on February 25, 1924 in North Carolina to Harrison William Russell and Cora Earley Russell.
A resident of Brasstown Manor, Lawson was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. He retired from Canton Drop Forge in Canton, Ohio. He and his wife "Vee" returned to Hiawassee to build a home and live out their lives where they began. Lawson was an avid gardener who loved growing flowers and tomatoes. He was loved by many and was a true gentleman.
In addition to his parents, Lawson was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Nicholson Russell; his son, Lawrence Russell; brothers, Harrison and Martin Russell; and sisters, Elease Jane Darnell and Paralee Velma Miller.
Survivors include: grandson, Douglas Russell and his wife, Cathy of Canal Fulton, OH; granddaughter, Autumn Russell of Clinton, OH; great grandson, Christopher Russell; daughter-in-law, Helen Russell of Hiawassee; sisters-in-law, Lula Mae Hunter of Hiawassee and Jeanette Melton and her husband, Buck of Marietta, GA. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and beloved friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Byers officiating. Special music will be presented by the Hunter Family and Wayne Hundley. Interment will follow at Osborn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m.
