Laurene "Toots" Tanner Abercrombie

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Laurene "Toots" Tanner Abercrombie, 78, of Blairsville, who passed away Friday morning in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Toots was born August 29, 1937 to the late Jewell & Monteen Tanner. She attended Union County High School, and graduated in 1955. She spent several years while growing up, working in a country store with her aunt and uncle, Glenn & Cricket Tanner. It was there she met the "love of her life", Buster Abercrombie.She and Buster lived in Cobb County, Georgia, for about 30 years before moving back to Blairsville. They had no children of their own, but she mothered many, including a host of nieces and nephews. She was a skilled seamstress and a wonderful cook Toots was a faithful member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church.

Toots was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, S.R. "Buster" Abercrombie. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: her sister, Helen Colwell; and her nieces and nephews, Holly Rhodes, Shannon Anderson, Ricky Abercrombie, Mitzi Gasaway, Tammy McClure, Teresa Wetzel, and Randy Legg. Many great nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2015, from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Stacy Dyer and Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating. Special music will be presented by Lee & Kathy Griggs and Martha Davenport, Dayton & Stacy Dyer. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Brian Mashburn, Wayne Tanner, Kurt Wetzel, Steve Colwell, Alan Young, David Hatcher, J.L. Tanner, and Travis Henry. Interment will be held in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at Cochran Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
