Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Lassie Walls Sluder, age 86, of Hiawassee, who passed away on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2015 at Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee.
Family was one of the most important threads that was woven into Lassie's life. She grew up in a large family. Lassie and her twin sister, Tassie, would travel the country to various twin conventions. Later, Getting together with the Sluders' took on special meaning as they gathered for family reunions, everybody's birthdays and fish fries in Ellijay. The family will cherish memories of shucking corn, stringing beans, and canning with her. Even the labor of raking leaves and pulling weeds will be missed because of the time spent together, just working in the yard.
Lassie worked for Bell South (AT&T) and retired with 43 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the AT&T Pioneers. Lassie enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren rotten and pinching the cheeks of babies, whether she knew them or not.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: son, Michael Williams; grandchildren, Dexter Williams, Jamie Williams, Destin Williams and Anastasia Breman; and great grandchildren, Walker Williams, Cody Williams, Cheyenne Trevino, Cohl Trevino and Sophia Vincent. Also, sharing in her legacy are numerous nieces and nephews. Lassie was preceded in death by her husband, James William Sluder; son, Gene Williams; brothers, Homer, Rueben & Willard Walls; and sisters, Susie Dyer, Isabelle Chance, Velvie Walls and Tassie Byers.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Dye & Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Cody Williams, Destin Williams, Walker Williams, Madison Moon, Christopher Walls & Willem DeVries. Honorary Pallbearers include Douglas Haigler, Caleb Kitchens, Jesse Byers & Dylan Walls. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
