Kerry Hicks

November 14, 1965 — February 3, 2025

McCaysville

Kerry Zane Hicks, age 59, of McCaysville, Georgia, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday, February 3, 2025. Kerry was a Christian who truly fought the good fight as he battled lung cancer since March of 2020. His faith and positive attitude were an inspiration to all.

Kerry was born on November 14,1965, to James "Bee" Hicks and Linda Williams Hicks. As a child and teenager Kerry enjoyed playing sports, riding motorcycles, hunting, church activities, and hanging out with his friends and family. He graduated from Fannin County High School and attended Southern Technical Institute, in Marietta, Georgia, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Kerry started his career at E-Smith Heating and Air immediately after his college graduation. He was an intelligent and hard worker who was well liked and respected. He remained at E-Smith until he secured a position at White Path Fab Tech and was able to move back to Fannin County to live. Again, Kerry gained the respect of his employer and co-workers due to his personal convictions and work ethics.

Kerry married his one and only love, Cindy Thompson, in June of 1991. They welcomed son Nolan in 1996 and daughter Natalie in 1999. They moved into their Wolf Creek Road home in 2000, where they were surrounded by his parents on one side and his sister Melinda on the other side. They were able to start raising their kids in the church in which Kerry had grown up, Williamstown Methodist Church.

Kerry was an avid Tennessee fan and could almost always be seen wearing either a UT shirt or a Yamaha shirt from Nolan's workplace. Kerry would concede and put on a Georgia shirt to cheer on Natalie at UGA games when she was a member of the Georgettes.

Kerry is known for walking the talk of his Christian faith, not only through his cancer battle but also his entire life. His priorities were always God, family, and friends. He was so proud of his family and loved them immeasurably. He was a beloved and dedicated member of his church, where he held many positions and was instrumental in helping build a new church in 2007. He did countless jobs for the church behind the scenes in his quiet way. Kerry attended church faithfully and was a walking testimony for God, every day.

Kerry was calm and wise beyond his years. He treated everyone he met with respect and was able to make everyone feel special. He was thoughtful, caring, intelligent, and loved beyond words by his family, church family, and his multitude of friends. He had friends from elementary school, high school, college, work and many new ones through the growth of the church.

Kerry was preceded in death by his grandparents Will and Willa Mae Hicks and Otis and Virginia Williams and his infant sister Melissa Therese Hicks.

Kerry is survived by his loving family, wife Cindy, son Nolan, daughter Natalie, parents James "Bee" and Linda Hicks, sister Melinda (George) Dillard, father and mother-in-law Lennie and Carol Green, brothers-in law Eric (Ginger) Thompson and Jeremy Green, nephews, nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Kerry will be greatly missed, and we know we will see him again in our heavenly home.

The family will receive visitors at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home in McCaysville, from 4 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 6. The funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, at Williamstown Methodist Church at 2:00.
