Kermit Chambers

August 20, 1942 — July 21, 2017

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Julius Kermit Chambers, age 74, of Blairsville, who passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 in Blairsville.

Kermit was born in a little house off Kiutuestia Creek on August 20, 1942 in Blairsville, Georgia, to Julius and Edith (Denton) Chambers. He married his wife Margie April 29, 1964. They were married 52 years when she passed away January 10th of this year. Kermit and Margie were a blessing as a couple to many friends and family. Kermit was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and of Young Cane Masonic Lodge, #597, for over 50 years. Kermit enjoyed hunting and fishing, but above that he loved his family and friends. He was a storyteller, and he had many stories to tell. He loved to get people to laugh - it came natural to him. He wasn't much for sweating the small stuff, and was known to say, "If they can live with it, I can live without it." Kermit was a hard worker, and the best Brother, Dad, and Papaw that anyone could ask for. He was a man who will be missed not only for his big heart and giving nature, but also for the love he made his family and friends feel. He was a genuine man, full of wisdom and discernment. He left this world completely at peace, sitting in his chair with his boots on. He and Margie are together once again.

Kermit will be missed by everyone who knew him, but he will be especially missed by his loving family: son, Kirk Chambers, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Tonya Chambers of Hiawassee; and daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Aaron Dills, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Johanna Chambers, of Blairsville; four grandchildren: Payton Chambers, Laken Chambers, Owen Chambers, and Kade Dills.

Funeral services for Kermit have been scheduled for Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 3:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following friends have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Stacy Chambers, Dean Everett, Steve Odom, Michael Tate, Kenneth Deyton, and Terry Stover. The following lifelong friends have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Butch Patton, Charles Mason, Johnny Varner, Phil Patton, Baxter Mason, Charles Murphy, Bud Murphy, Yonah Chambers, and Joe Dyer. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens next to his wife, Margie.

The family will meet with friends on Saturday evening, July 22, 2017, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory. Please sign the online guest registry and share your condolences with the family on our website, www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
