Kathryn Mack

April 22, 1934 — December 18, 2009

Kathryn W. Mack, age 75, of Hiawassee passed away on December 18, 2009. at a Gainesville, Georgia hospital. Mrs. Mack was preceded in death by her parents, Walter F. and Willie B. Witherspoon and a sister, Rita W. Pickle.

Know to all as Katie, she was born in Centerville, Tennessee on April 22, 1934. After graduating from high school in 1952, she began a successful career with Southern Bell Telephone, interrupted by a twenty year leave of absence to raise her children.

After she and her husband, Bill retired in 1985 from the phone company, they moved to Hiawassee and needing something to occupy their time, owned and operated a ladies apparel store on Main Street, known as Katie's. The store was sold in 1997 and they retired once again, this time for good.

She was a member of the Hiawassee United Melodist Church and the Southern Bell Telephone Pioneers.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Bill Mack: her son, William C. Mack; her daughter, Ann Mack Cummings: a grandson, Jake Andrew Cummings: a granddaughter Bekki Elyse Cummings: a brother, Walter F. Witherspoon Jr of Weatherford, Texas: brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Mack of Lexington, Kentucky: several nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested that for those desiring, memorials be made to the Towns County Public Library in Hiawassee.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 5 to 7 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee with Reverend Les Connell officiating. Place of rest will be in Laurel Hills Memory Gardens, Hiawassee, Georgia.
