Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Katherine Carolyn Ledford Twiggs, age 87, of Blairsville, who passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Mrs.Twiggs was born the year of the great depression, on April 11, 1929, in Cherokee County, North Carolina. A daughter of the late Fred Porter Ledford, and the late Cecil Chastain Ledford. She was taught from an early age to work hard for what she needed and wanted. She worked at Talc Industry for the Hitchcock Corporation in Murphy, where she retire after nearly 45 years. Kate was a fine storyteller , proven by her tale, "Aunt Ada's Flies", recently published by Hometown Memories in The Living History of Northeast Georgia's book "Field Mules and Buttermilk Cornbread". She absolutely adored children, all children. She loved to quilt. Yard sales were like carnivals to her. Kate was a godly woman, and a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church. She so much looked forward to meeting The Good Lord when she left this earth and being reunited with those who have gone before.
Kate will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her family: her husband of 55 years, Randall; son, Steve Roberson; and daughter, Linda Weeks; a brother, John B. Ledford and his wife Melva Lynn, of Blairsville; 5 Grandchildren: Stacey Roberson, Scotty Roberson and his wife Donna; Tina Blackstock, Heather Weeks, and Dexter Stiles and his wife, Amanda; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Kate had been preceded in death by an infant son, Eddie; her parents; sisters: Eula Ledford Buchanan; Marie Ledford Hogsed; and May and Margie Ledford. and brother, Fred Ledford, Jr.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., to be held in Ivy Log Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Black officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Scotty Roberson, Dexter Stiles, Gary Raper, J.L. Davenport, Terry Collins, and Marty Johnson. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: H.B. Davenport, Ricky Twiggs, and Randy Zimmerman. Burial will be in Ivy Log Cemetery. The family will be meeting with friends on Tuesday evening, May 17, 2016, at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
