Karen Schulz

September 8, 1935 — February 6, 2025

Karen Alice Schulz nee Loding passed away peacefully in her sleep in Blue Ridge, Georgia surrounded by her family. In the words of her granddaughter, Kayla Martin, an amazing woman who left the world on February 6th, 2025, and as painful as it is and as much as she will be missed, her impact on the world, those she loved, and her smile will always be around. We love and miss you always.

Karen was born in 1935 to Kenneth Ray Loding and Katherine Alice Loding nee Arnold in Illinois on a farm now owned by John Deere.

Karen grew up in California during the Great Depression and World War II. She experienced tornados, earthquakes, and hurricanes.

She marched in the Rose Bowl Parade as a majorette with her high school's marching band.

She graduated from Mark Keppel High School and earned her associate's degree in accounting and bookkeeping.

She was renowned for her fine cooking and baking. She was an avid walker and bicyclist. She loved the outdoors and exploring nature. She loved traveling and visiting museums and art galleries. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of accompanying her on adventures such as observing bears from their backyard to visiting the Teddy Bear Museum to viewing dinosaur bones at the American Museum of Natural History.

She loved watching Westerns and football games with her son-in-law, Guy Martin.

For 20 years Karen served along side her husband, Rev. Doctor Fredrick Wiley Schulz as an integral member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton, NY. She especially loved participating in the Bell Choir and the Women's Circle.

After retirement, she was a devoted and devout member of the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church of Naples, FL.

She volunteered as a tutor for migrant farm workers' children in Immokalee, FL to teach them to read. She was a lifelong supporter of civil and human rights.

She is known to her family and friends as selfless, compassionate, and empathetic. She lived to serve others and make the world a kind and just planet, sustained by her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ.

Mother of Renada Martin, Andrea Schulz and Eric Schulz. Mother-in-law of Guy Martin and Susan Schulz.

Grandmother of Dustin, Kayla, and Dyllon Martin, Kirsten Schulz, Amanda Kendrick, and Cassie Lannoy.

Great grandmother of Kenzie Martin, Slade Martin, Cash Martin, Brody Martin, Braylee Rodger, Arlen Kendrick, and Sailor Lannoy.

Aunt of Kurt, Ken Denise Wilson, and Kim Loding.
