Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces the death and funeral services for Jurl Russell Gilreath, age 65, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Gilreath was born in Union County, Georgia, on August 8, 1944, a son of the late Russell Gilreath and the late Bessie Payne Gilreath. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Gilreath had been employed by the U.S. Forestry Service, assigned to Fire Management. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Suches. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son, Mike Gilreath.
Surviving family members are daughter and son-in-law, Angela Marie and Jeff Dodd, of Calhoun, Georgia; special friend, Marie Simmons, of Blairsville; grandson, Avery Dodd. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronnie McCormick and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by Larry Nichols, Roy and Doris Hefner. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Tim Helton, Bill Coker, Roy Hefner, Nick Fortenberry, Greg Gilreath, and Benny Brookshire. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Jerome Garrett, Christopher Parks, James Conrad Gilreath, and Eugene Gilreath. North Georgia Honor Guard will present military graveside honors at the burial at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Suches.
Visitation will begin on Friday, May 7, 2010, after 6 pm; the family will especially meet with friends from 6 until 9 pm on Friday.
