Julia (Julie) La Rue Davenport Adcock

Julie Adcock of Hayesville, NC passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus after a period of declining health, and is now enjoying her eternal rewards for a race that she ran well to the end.

Julie was born in Tyrrell County, North Carolina, and was the 12th of 13 siblings. Her parents were Lillian May (Brickhouse) and Llewelyn Harrison Davenport, and they passed their hard-working ways on to Julie and her 9 brothers and 3 sisters. She enjoyed singing, wood working, and outdoor activities such as mowing grass or driving the tractor for “gettin’ ‘er done”.

Julie married Buford Adcock in 1963, and they had two children, Sherry and Kenny. Family connections were very important throughout her life. For decades there were annual family reunions complete with games, good food, and great fellowship. Julie always called family members near and far to wish happy birthdays or just to chat. She loved her grandkids and would often travel to visit and do things with them. Throughout her life Julie worked a variety of jobs, from driving a school bus to working in a box factory to short order cooking to animal control officer to office manager for Buford’s sales business, doing whatever needed to be done to help support her family.

Julie was kind and loving, always willing to help others either actively with such things as mowing grass (one of her favorite activities) or just sitting and listening and being with them. She was actively involved in her local church where ever she lived, including Fellowship Baptist, Bethlehem Baptist, Naples Baptist, Skyland First Baptist, and most recently New Life Church. She was a quiet but powerful inspiration to those she ministered with, and will be greatly missed by many who remain behind.

Julie was predeceased by her parents, several siblings, and her husband Buford. She leaves behind her children Sherry Crann (Bill), and Kenny Adcock; grandchildren Alyssa, Nicolas, Caleb, Mahala, Aaron, Thomas, Joshua, Sarah Beth, Daniel, Ainslee, and Tucker; brothers L. H. Davenport and Wayne Davenport (Tempy); and scads of nieces and nephews.
