Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. J.P. Wesley Payne, age 87, of Braselton, Georgia, who passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mr. Payne was a son of the late Harley Payne and Bertha Allen Payne. Mr. Payne had been preceded in death by his wife, Jerald Dean Plott Payne, with whom he had shared 54 years of marriage. He loved his family dearly and always wanted the best for them. He enjoyed being outdoors, and fishing and hunting his beloved mountains.

Family members left to cherish the memory of their dad, brother, and grandfather: sons and daughters-in-law, Charles & Gail Payne and Carson & Gwen Payne; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon & Trenton Smith; daughter, Sherry Coberly; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Jimmy Anderson; and Billy and Dale Mahaffey, that JP loved just like his own sons.
Brothers: Wesley Payne, James Payne, Leaner Payne; and sisters: Annie Mae Payne, Ivlean O'Neal, and Margie Patterson; grandchildren: Michelle, Nicole, Ember, Keith, Stephanie, Kerry, Clint, Joshua, Wesley, Cody, and Ali; 10 great grandchildren also share in his legacy.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Mt. Liberty Church Cemetery in Fannin County. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday evening, September 26, 2017, from 6 until 9 p.m.
