Joyce (Nell) Lynell Martin

Joyce Lynell “Nell” Martin, 85, of Murphy, NC, passed away on January 10, 2025.

Nell was born on April 19, 1939 to Beatrice & Andrew Smith in Cario, GA. After Nell graduated from Cario high school in 1957, she went on to Atlanta, GA to seek a career.

After moving to Atlanta, she started her first job at B & L telephone company, kickstarting her career.

Nell eventually met Cliff in Atlanta and a few years later they married on January 12, 1964 and have been married for 61 years. They also went on to adopt their only child, Sheila.

In 1994, Nell retired from Lockheed and moved to Murphy, NC with her husband, Cliff; and spent her time fishing, oil painting and basket weaving, she also enjoyed crochet and needle point. She loved shopping with family and friends and enjoyed eating Mexican food with her granddaughter, Madisyn.

Nell was predeceased by Beatrice Elrod (Harry) and Andrew Smith. She is survived by her husband (Cliff Martin), daughter (Sheila Motter (Ben)), granddaughter (Madisyn Gray (Dyronn)), great grandson (Tysonn Rhone), sister (Gwen Sampler (Gary)), niece (Heather Whitlock (Clint, Wes & Annabel)). Nell also leaves behind a brokenhearted, supportive group of relatives, including countless friends.

To honor Nell’s life, services will be held at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home on January 15, 2025 at 11:00am. Pastor Chester Jones will officiate. A reception will immediately follow.
