Joseph William ""Joe"" Farabee

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Joseph (Joe) W. Farabee, son of Maurice F. and the late Annie M. Strong Farabee, who died September 28, 2013 at the VA Health Care System in Miami, Florida.

Joe was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 26, 1948. He resided in a number of locations, as his father was a Special Agent for the FBI for 30 years. Joe moved with his family to Miami and the Homestead, Florida area in 1959, where he continued to live until his death.

Joe served in the United States Army. While on two tours of duty in Vietnam, he was crew chief and door gunner on Assault Helicopters and he participated in the Vietnam Counteroffensive Phase VI and TET 69 Counteroffensive. He was awarded the Air Medal and Aircraft Crewman's Badge and received his Honorable Discharge.

Besides his father, Maurice, Joe is survived by a daughter, Amanda Farabee; and his two brothers and their wives: Theodore (Ted) and Deborah Farabee of Reston, Virginia and John and Trudy Farabee of Blairsville, Georgia.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Depending on weather conditions at the time, services will either be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, or graveside at Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held at Cochran Funeral Home on Tuesday, the same day of the service, for one hour prior to the start of the service.
