Mr. Joseph Donald Parmer, age 82, of Murphy, NC, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023, in Canton, GA. Joseph was born March 14, 1941, in Foley, AL to Woodrow and Willie Mae Parmer. Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Parmer, and mother, Willie Mae Polk Parmer.
He is survived by his wife, Ruthie Parmer; daughters, April Danielle (Scott) Doutt; Wendy Marie (Shawn) Seabolt; brothers, William (Josie) Parmer, Jimmy (Zonie) Parmer, David (Irene) Parmer; sister, Linda Faye (Danny) Meadows; grandchildren, Logan (Brady) Lawn, Cole Seabolt, Kaylee (Lucas) Murphy, Ashton (Russell) Petty, Dallas (Nick) Teer; great-grandchildren, Loralai, Ronni, Tatum, Annie Kay, and Delaney.
Joe was a proud Army veteran and worked as a service technician in Mobile, AL, for Bellsouth/South Central Bell/AT&T for 30 years before retiring to Murphy, NC, in 1996. He was a loyal Christian that devoted much of his time to studying the scripture and was a true man of God. He loved spending time and having long conversations with friends and family. His greatest joy was being close to Ruthie, the love of his life and wife for over 50 years. Their marriage stands as a testament to what love truly is. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends for a Gathering of Remembrance and Celebration of Life on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Graveside services will be held in Mobile, AL at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to cancer research, Alzheimer’s research, or your favorite charity.
