Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. John Stanley Odom, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Mr. Odom was born in Fannin County, Georgia, on Sunday, December 21, 1947, a son of the late J.C. Odom and the late Fleeta Chastain Odom. Stanley was a member of New Union Baptist Church. Over the years, Mr. Odom had been employed with Georgia Boot, Tennessee Chemical Company, and MGM Brakes. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Stanley liked to work outdoors too, doing truck farming, logging and bushhogging. From his dining room table, he enjoyed watching the wild birds eating from the birdfeeder. Stanley loved being outdoors and and taking care of his dogs. Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bob" Odom.
Stanley was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but especially his family: his loving wife of 47 years, Kathy Ballew Odom; daughter, Lisa Odom Owenby, of Blairsville; son, Kirk Odom, of Blairsville; and daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Shannon Kelley, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Debbie Odom, of Blairsville; grandson and his wife, Justin and Celeste B. Owenby, granddaughters, Adrian Owenby and Kristen Odom; grandson, Jesse Kelley; nieces and nephews: Kyle Odom, Krista and Chris Fox, Amanda and Daryl Eason, and great nephew, Bobby Eason; extended nieces and nephews also survive; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at 2:00 pm., at New Union Baptist Church, with Rev. Harrison Bradley and Rev. Steve Odom officiating. Special music will be presented by New Union Baptist Church Choir, Angie Kelley, and Scott Lance. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Kirk Odom, Shannon Kelley, Jesse Kelley, Kyle Odom, Michael Chambers, Justin Owenby, Chris Fox, Jerry Ballew, and Chris Ballew. Burial will be in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday night, November 1, 2011, from the hours of 5 until 9 p.m.
