The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces the death of Mr. John Edward Chauvin, age 81, who went home to be with Jesus on August 2nd, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey (Mire) Chauvin; Sons: Paul (Elaine); Robert (Faith); Mark (Barb). PawPaw of Christopher, Matthew; Jessica, Elizabeth; Amy, Rachel, and Luke; Great Grand-Dad to Kaity and Logan. Also survived by siblings: Rose Collins, Edna Jones, Claire McCabe, Raymond (Gaydell) and countless nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Frank and Blanche Chauvin. John was preceded in death by his siblings: Thaddeus, Huey, and Ruth Carter. John was born in Houma, LA, but resided in Gretna, LA until 1997 when he moved to his much beloved "Georgia Mountain Home" in Hiawassee. John served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Post Office in old Gretna. John was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gretna, LA; is a member of the Knights of Columbia, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Hayesville, NC, devoted to Our Lady of Fatima, and a supporter of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
John was loved by everybody that knew him especially by those that lived in The Mountain Village community in Hiawassee. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor - New Orleans.
