Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces the death of Mr. John Donald Stevenson, age 87, of Young Harris, Georgia, who passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Mr. Stevenson was born on October 22, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps (which later became the U.S. Air Force) as a lieutenant. He moved to the Young Harris area approximately 20 years ago, from Oak Park, Michigan. Mr. Stevenson was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a Shriner; a member of Ferndale Masonic Lodge, #506, F & AM, in Michigan. John had served as Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, #460, in Michigan. He was an avid bridge player, and of the Methodist faith.
John will be especially missed by his family: his wife, Patricia Stevenson, of Young Harris; two sons and their wives: James and Nora Stevenson, of Berkley, Michigan, and John and Janice Stevenson, of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; an aunt, Fran Harris, of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Private family memorial services will be held later in Canada.
