John Clyde Twiggs, Jr.

November 29, 1939 — March 14, 2021

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces the death and funeral services for Mr. John C. Twiggs, Jr. age 81 of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away on March 14th, 2021 after an extended illness. John was born on November 29th, 1939 to the late Gladys Cook Twiggs and the late John C. Twiggs, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joan S. Twiggs, his “favorite” sister Ann Twiggs, and a number of cousins and friends who knew him as a very happy, kind, and generous person.

John attended Young Harris College, graduated from Georgia Southern University, and earned his Master’s Degree in education from North Georgia College. He taught in Towns County Schools for 30 years. Not satisfied with retirement, he continued his teaching career in Regional Youth Detention Center facilities for 4 more years. Many of these students were troubled teens who needed a helping hand which he was more than glad to extend to them. John loved his students and was a very caring and encouraging teacher. Some of his best friends now are some of his former students who have remained close over the years.

John’s uncle Frank Abernathy and his Aunt Eula George instilled in him a love for the Tennessee Volunteers Football Team as a young boy by taking him to Knoxville to see the games. When he was a very young boy, they took him to Dallas, Texas to the Cotton Bowl, a trip he fondly remembered through the years. John was also an avid gun collector who loved fishing, hunting, mountains, and lakes.

Due to the weather, there has been a change in the services. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 17th, 2021 in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Chris Rumfelt and Dr. Eddis Dockery officiating. Music and vocals will be by the Rumfelt family. Interment be in Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.
