Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mrs. JoAnn Lena Van Pelt of Blairsville, GA passed away on May 29,2017 in Blairsville. JoAnn was born on January 3, 1936 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Pruellene (Outlaw) and U.B. Wetherington. She was a graduate of Asbury College with a degree in Biology and worked as a Medical Technologist for many years after receiving her Masters in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute. JoAnn was the wife of Ronald R. Van Pelt who she met and married in Jacksonville, FL in February of 1964 until his death in November of 2010. She was a loving wife and mother who taught her two sons to worship God in His Fullness and Glory. One son, Ronald R. Van Pelt Jr. passed away in September of 2007 in Jacksonville. She is also preceded in death by her parents, sister Pat and brother Barney. She is survived by her son, Charles Eric Van Pelt and wife Christina Anne as well as 3 grandchildren; Joanna Catherine, Matthew Eric and David Bryan. Mom was very involved with the Gideon's Auxiliary and the Women on Mission group at First Baptist. She had a love for missions that extended to taking several trips to Ecuador and Peru as well as hosting missionaries in her home. Mom raised a missionary and willingly gave him to the Lord for His service. Mom will be interred with Dad at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA following a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church of Blairsville, GA. The memorial service is on June 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Rock Chapel of First Baptist. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scholarship Fund of First Baptist will be gratefully accepted.
