Jimmy R. Franklin - A proud husband, father and grandfather, enjoyed hunt fishing and pulling pranks on his family and friends.
Mr. Jimmy Ree Franklin, age 73, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009in his home. Jimmy was born Tuesday, December 10, 1935 in Fannin County, GA to the late Jim Jehu Franklin and the late Ethel Stewart Franklin.
Mr. Franklin was a member of the AM Vets and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, college and "Pro" ball, and was a avid sports car racing fan. Jimmy was a true Georgia Fan, but always kept up with the "stats" for all the teams. He had a great sense of humor and true wit. He had the ability to turn a sad or dull moment into a happier or brighter time, by using his witty humor. He was also a game foul enthusiast and care taker.
Jimmy was member of Lebanon Baptist Church of Epworth, GA. He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company after 25 years of service as a Mining Supervisor. Jim was a loving husband, father , grandfather and wonderful friend to many.
He was preceded in death by parents, Jim J. & Ethel Stewart Franklin, one sister, Lou Vena Van Ness, brothers, Floyd and Robert Franklin.
Survivors include: wife, Diane Franklin of Blue Ridge, GA, son, Zane Franklin of Epworth, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Yvette & Lance Smiley of Tremont, IL, son & daughter-in-law, Boyd & & Kimberley Franklin of Blue Ridge, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Annette & Joseph Youngblood of Gainesville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Natalie & Johnny Tarpley of Blue Ridge, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Crystal & Kenneth Gaddis of Gainesville, GA, and thirteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 2:00 from the Lebanon Baptist Church with the Reverend David McLendon officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Caleb Franklin, Carl Franklin, Clarence Franklin, Kevin Franklin, Bill Patterson, and Bob Mathis. Honorary pallbearers include: Ronnie Schuler, and R.L. Hadden.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm Friday, February 27, 2009.
