Jerry "Sean" Hughes passed passed away peacefully on 28 October, 2023 at his home in Parma, Idaho. Sean was born 15 May, 1967 in Murphy, North Carolina. He was the son of Harry and Bivian Ledford Hughes.
He was a kind, loving, generous person who never met a stranger and usually had a smile on his face. Sean loved people!
He is survived by his parents, his wife Joyanne Freeman Hughes, her two sons, his sister Kristin, her husband Myles, and their three daughters.
Sean attended school in Union County, Georgia. He graduated from Union County High School in the spring of 1986.
He loved sports and especially football. He played football from the 4th grade until he graduated and basketball in middle school. Sean was a member of Union County High School's highly successful football teams from 1984 through 1986.
He was a diehard Georgia Football Fan with a red and black man cave full of memorabilia.
Sean was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army from July 6th, 1986 until July 6th 1990. He attained the rank of sergeant in the Military Police, serving with the high security 558th Military Police Company in Germany. After he was discharged, Sean joined the Hall County, Georgia Sheriff's Office on 2 October, 1990 and served until 16 September 2007.
That year, he and his wife moved to Boise, Idaho area to be near her parents: James and Eva Rangitsch Freeman.
He was a member of the Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club of Idaho, a group of active and retired law enforcement officers dedicated to serving others.
Sean obtained his B.S. degree in Social Studies Education from Boise State University in 2014. He worked and helped coach at two local high schools near his home in Parma, Idaho until cancer made it impossible to work. At this time, he had to give up riding his beloved Harley-Davidson road cruiser. Sean fought a valiant, painful, losing battle with Renal Metastatic Carcinoma for over 8 years.
A celebration service will be at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on November 25th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to Bellview Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, Murphy, NC or the American Cancer Society.
