Mrs. Jennie Myrtle Lawson, age 91 of Blue Ridge, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Mrs. Lawson was born November 25, 1922 in Dothan, AL to the late Grover C. Lewis and the late Lenora Outlaw Lewis. Coming from a family of nine, she was preceded in death by nearly all of her family members including her husband, Harry L. Lawson and her son, David Allen Lawson.
Survivors include, daughter, Linda L. Davidson and son-in-law Bay Gruber, three grandchildren who lovingly called her "Mimi", Brian Davidson and Missy Godfrey, Lee and Jaime Davidson, and Andrea and Chris Wernli, also four great-grandchildren, Megan Smith, Douglas Smith, Bailey Davidson, and Damian Davidson.
Mrs. Lawson was very active in her community. Before she lived in Fannin County she served as District Director of the United Way of Miami-Dade County, FL under Senator Bill Lanstaff. She was President of the Dade County Chapter of the American Cancer Society in Miami, served as one of the lay members on the Executive Board of the Miami Baptist Association (MBA), a charter member of the Baptist Hospital of Miami auxiliary. She was active in fund raisers for a variety of children's hospitals in Miami and Parent-Teacher Associations and she was the first Vice President of MBA and WMU. She was a member of the executive board of Ft. Myers, FL Board of Realtors, a graduate of Realtors Institute, and holder of Certified Residential Specialist designation from the National Association of Realtors.
After moving to Fannin County she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge, WMU Director, adult Sunday school teacher, Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Pastor Search Committee, senior adult teacher, and she served for several years on the Board of Equalization.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Brunson officiating. Pallbearers include Lee Davidson, Brian Davidson, Bay Gruber, Roger Wankel, Tom Barrett and James George. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Oyer and Dale Dyer.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home on Friday from 10-11 am before the service.
