Davis, Jr., son and daughter-in-law Richard & Karen Davis, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Leo Peacock and daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Bill Haney; brother Dr. Joe H. Maltby of Palatka, Florida, sister and brother-in-law Mary Jane and Bruce Kelsey, Haines City, Florida and sister-in-law Sharon Maltby Kennedy of Riverdale, Florida. Mrs. Davis was born September 2, 1927, in St. Augustine, Florida to the late Hubert & Imojene Dowdy Maltby. She attended the House of Prayer International Church in Blairsville and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Palatka, Florida. Jean began her career in 1956, in Putnam County, Florida, with the County Engineer/Road Department. She later joined the County Clerk's office as a Deputy Clerk and secretary to the Board of County Commissioners. She served in that capacity for 28 years as an essential help in many areas of county business.
Jean was known, lovingly, to family and friends as "Dolly Jean". She added such sparkle to every life she touched. She always said, "Every girl needs a little glitz". She had a marvelous sense of humor. No one ever knew when they would fall victim to her antics. Jean loved life. She loved her family. She was known for her kindness and grace. She loved the mountains, enjoyed travelling and fishing. Her philosophy was "a caught fish is a cooked fish". Next to Jesus and her beloved husband and family, her greatest love was the St. Johns River. Her connection to the river was an integral part of shaping the woman she became and like the river she was strong – yet gentle with currents that ran deep. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
