Janice E. Colwell, age 98, of Hayesville, N.C. passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, surrounded by her daughters Nanette and Sharyl.
Janice was born on January 28, 1926 in Massillon, Ohio. She married the love of her life, Ezra H. "Hank" Colwell on November 11, 1949. Together, they raised three daughters in Perry, Georgia. The family was active in the Perry United Methodist Church. Janice was a Girl Scout leader and active room mother in elementary school classrooms, She enjoyed annual family camping trips in the Appalachian Mountains. Janice was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves for decades.
Janice worked for the Houston Home Journal in Perry, Georgia. Upon retirement, Janice and Hank moved to Blairsville, Georgia which became their home for more than forty years. Janice truly lived a wonderful life because of her love of family and friends in addition to her positive outlook on life.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Ezra H. "Hank" Colwell, two brothers and sister-in-laws.
Surviving Janice are her three daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis and Raymond Tanner, Sharyl Colwell Vest, and Nanette J. Colwell, six grandchildren, Karl (Kelly) Everidge Jr., Jan (Lane) Hosea, Brantley (Jennifer) Everidge, Amy (David) Cutler, Sarah Michelle Maier, and Lucian Paul Vest Jr.; six great-grandchildren, three nieces and families; and three great nieces and families.
As per Janice's wishes, she was cremated with private graveside services at Union Memory Gardens, Blairsville, Georgia on Friday, May 31, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are requested. PO BOX 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
