The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces a Memorial Service for Janette Ownbey Underwood, age 73 of Blairsville, formerly of Montana, who went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Janette was a dedicated Christian woman. A pastor's daughter (and later a pastor's wife), a Sunday School teacher, a pianist/ singer, and a faithful ministry coordinator- her life centered around faith and family. At 9 years old, she began playing piano at her church for her father who was a minister. Every Sunday they sang Gospel music on WKRK radio station. For the last 25 years, she and her husband have served on the mission field sharing the Gospel to the native Blackfeet tribe in Montana. Janette gifted with many talents and a spirit of hospitality. She was an avid reader and writer. Janette wrote monthly newsletters to her ministry supporters and more recently authored and published her book, Footprints.
It's said that Janette "danced to her own tune". She was very open and honest; efficient and extremely organized- never letting anything go to waste. Janette loved to travel and explore God's creation. She enjoyed seeing His Handiwork in all beautiful things. Children were especially precious to Janette because they are precious to God. She would love them by cooking or baking their favorite items. Every person had a unique and special birthday cake, made with love, by Janette.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: Husband of 57 years, Harold Underwood; son, Tony Underwood; daughter & son-in-law, Alana & Dan Burtness; and grandchildren,
Elizabeth Ann Mygland (Jon) and McKenna Grace Killian. Janette was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Gladys Ownbey; and granddaughter, Laura Marie Underwood.
