Mr. James Wesley Garrett, age 90, of Blairsville went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Mr. Garrett was born on August 8, 1925 in Murphy, North Carolina to the late Joseph Wesley Garrett and the late Lockie Arkansas (Seabolt) Garrett. Known as a man with a strong work ethic, James dedicated over 40 years as a lineman for the Murphy Power Board and upon retirement began working for the Union County Recreation Department. An early riser, He started every morning at 5 a.m. making breakfast and was famous for his biscuits. He was a protector and family man. With a competitive spirit he loved to play golf, fish and once played Baseball for the Blairsville Town League. He was a member of Allegheny Lodge #114 where he recently received recognition for his 50 years of Masonic service.
He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth (Crawford) Garrett; daughter & son-in-law, Sharolette & Gary Adams; son & daughter-in-law, Eddie & Jeanette Garrett; son & daughter-in-law, Ronnie & Jan Garrett; son & his fiancé, Stanley Garrett & Traci; son & daughter-in-law, Dennis & Loretta Garrett; daughter, Beverly Hawkins; daughter & son-in-law, Cindy & Mike Gillum; son & daughter-in-law, Mark & Ancy Garrett; and brother & sister-in-law, Marvin & Barbara Garrett. Also, sharing in his legacy are 26 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,4 siblings and his daughter, Pamela Jean Garrett.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2016 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Kevin Garrett and Rev. Tommy Seay officiating. Music was provided by the Garrett Family and the Renshaw family. Interment followed at Sunset Cemetery in Murphy, North Carolina. The committal service was led by Rev. Tim Renshaw and Masonic Honors provided by Allegheny Lodge # 114. The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stanley Garrett, Eddie Garrett, Mark Garrett, Dennis Garrett, Caleb Garrett, and Mike Gillum. Honorary escort included Corey Garrett, Cody Garrett, Ronnie Garrett, and Wesley Garrett.
