Mr. James Vaughan Dyer, age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
A farmer and construction worker living all his life in Blairsville, Mr. Dyer was a member of Pine Top Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II with the Civil Conservation Corp. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Dyer and is survived by his wife of 66 years: Ella L. Souther Dyer, Blairsville; Children: Eyonne and Ron Dayhoff, Dawsonville; Carol and Tommy Bowers, Gainesville; Sheila Greene, Buford; Lynn and Tom Cook, Smyrna; Terry and Mae Dyer, Young Harris; Stanley and Lynnette Dyer, Pam and Terry Simmons, Kent and Sandra Dyer, all of Blairsville; Brother, Jim Collins, Blairsville; sisters: Irene Robinson, Maver Swanson, both of Young Harris; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Choestoe Baptist Church, with Rev. Henry Loggins and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie instate at the church starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.
