James "Robert" Butt

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. James Robert Butt, age 78, of Blairsville, who passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Robert was a native of Blairsville, and was born on September 13, 1932, to Bob Bryan Butt and Zora Gibson Butt. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in Korea. He was a lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was the owner of Butts Antiques Store in Blairsville. He was a member of The American Legion, and North Georgia Honor Guard. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Joe Owenby, and sister and brother-in-law, Anna Lou and Jack Rogers.

Robert will be missed and is lovingly remembered by his family: Betty Ann Butt, of Blairsville; sons and daughters-in-law, James Bryan and Lisa Butts, of Tiger, Georgia; and Jeffery Claude and Kathy Butt, of Young Harris, Georgia; brother, Max Butt, of Blairsville; grandson, Logan Butts and granddaughter, Morgan Butts along with three nieces and many extended family members.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: David Miller, Logan Butts, Joel Miller, Jason Miller, Gollie Easter, and Bill Fulton. Selected to serve as honorary pallbearers are Dr. James F. Butts, Sr., and Newt Miller. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard and the U.S. Army National Guard. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted; however, if you wish to do so, memorial contributions may be made to Union County Historical Society.
