Jim Matheny

James Martin Matheny, age 84, of Murphy, N.C., passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, surrounded by family, at his home. James was born March 17, 1940, in Palatka, FL to John Matheny and Henrietta McElroy.

James was preceded in death by his father, John Matheny; mother, Henrietta McElroy, brother, Jerold Matheny; and grandchild, James Dylan Bradshaw.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Matheny; son, James (Monique) Matheny III; daughter, Tonna Matheny; son, Shane Matheny; brother, John (Cathy) Matheny; grandchildren, James Matheny IV, Garrett (Melissa) Matheny, Bradley (Lisa) Matheny, Tristen Matheny, and Ashley (Tommy) Adams; honorary grandchildren, Kayla Harris and B.J. Smallwood; five great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

James served in the United States Marine Corps.

Graveside Service, on Tuesday October 22, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Murphy, NC. with Rev. Charles Litzell officiating.
