James Mark Scroggs

James Mark Scroggs, age 94 of Brasstown, passed away November 2, 2011 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home. Mr. Scroggs was born May 2, 1917 in Clay County, NC to the late Harley and Pearl Hampton Scroggs. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevie Stamey Scroggs, son Ralph Cecil Scroggs, and Grandson Timothy Richard Byers. Mr. Scroggs was a Methodist and attended Hickory Stand United Methodist Church. He loved his family, working with wood building porch swings, Bird houses, whirley birds and Rockers. Also, he loved to work in his garden growing vegetables.

Survivors include: Son, Clifton "Whitey" Scrogs of Murphy, daughter & son-in-law Ellen and Joseph Afonso of Andrews, daughter & son-in-law Helen & Faron Stiles of Andrews, son & daughter-in-law James Sherdon and Elaine Scroggs of Murphy, daughter & son-in-law Nancy and Scott Rogers of Murphy, son & daughter-in-law William Duke and Ann Scroggs of Hayesville, brother, Frank Scroggs and sister Grace Beale, both of Asheville. 9 Grandchildren, 12 Greatgrandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Corn and Rev. Billy Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Warne, NC. Music will be provided by Debbie Green and Rev. Allan Harris. Pallbearers: Harry Byers, Bob Byers, James Shelton, Bill Tipton, Wayne Holland, Jr. and Don Teems

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM.
