James Lester Dockery, age 82, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home. Mr. Dockery was born Sunday, August 10, 1924 in Gastonia NC to the late Oliver J. Dockery and the late Bessie Ashe Dockery. A member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church he retired from operating engeneers local 917 in Chattanooga as heavy equipment operator, he had help build the Saint Lawrence Seaway, Heartwell Dam, Ocoee Flume Line and Cartersville's Dam. He was preceded in death by sister, Wilma Dockery.
Survivors include: wife, Lucille Jordan Dockery, son & daughter-in-law, Rev. Eddis & Ola Dockery of Young Harris, son & daughter-in-law, Jerome and Tara Dockery of Murphy, son & daughter-in-law, Gerald and Lorenda Dockery of Murphy, brother, Lowen Dockery of Murphy, sister, Hazel Herndon of Power Springs, Ga, sister, Jane Eason of Marietta, Ga., sister, Christine Burns of Canton, Ga., granddaughter, Kena Murphy, grandson, Adam Dockery, grandson, Justin Dockery, grandson, Jordan Dockery, granddaughter, Tasia Dockery, granddaughter, Dee Dockery, great grandchildren, Kenzie, Kelbie, Jacob, Jeremiah, and Reed, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 2:00PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bobby Chastain and Reverend Eddis Dockery, officiating. Music will be provided by Adam & Tasia Dockery and Bobby Chastain. Interment will follow in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Adam Dockery, Justin Dockery, Jordan Dockery, Toby Murphy, Max O'Dell and, Tom Coarsey. Honorary pallbearers include: Howard Mingus, Jack Elder and Mark Farmer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Saturday, March 3.
