James A. (Jim) Pierson passed away at his home in Douglasville, GA, on Monday, July 30, 2007 following a two month courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Terrace Park, Ohio, on November 24, 1940.He was the son of the late Carl and Ada Lunsford Pierson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Otis Pierson. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, and Treasurer. Jim was an avid camper and fisherman. He loved to sing and volunteered at Garden Terrace Nursing Home for many years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joyce Haney Pierson, one brother Carl Pierson and wife Wilma, of Lawrenceville, GA, two sisters, Dorothy McElroy of New Richmond, Ohio, and Mary Marcum of Bethel, Ohio, Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
No visitation is planned. The family will receive friends at the home of Janice Haney, 1031 Panther Top Road, Murphy, NC. A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 4 pm Wednesday, August 1, 2007 in Murphy, NC. Reverend Randy Johnson will officiate. Pallbearers will be: John Warren Dyer, Garry McClure, Alan Bryant, Travis Bryant, James Collins, John Cavender and honorary pallbearer Lee Rhone. Special music provided by Regina Gentry.
