James Gilmore "Rock Doc" Allen, age 85, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 at his home. Mr. Allen was born Tuesday, April 19, 1921 in Girard, Ala. to the late James Tyler Allen and the late Arline Collins West Allen. He moved to this area in 1981 from Stuart, Fla. He retired from Fla. Power and Light. As a rock hound, he made beautiful jewelry, he loved fishing, and he was a amateur horticulturist who enjoyed growing orchards.
Survivors include: wife, Carolyn Appleby Allen, daughter & son-in-law, Donna Allen Phillips & Larry Phillips of Dallas, GA; son & daughter-in-law, James & Kay Allen of Blue Ridge, GA; brother, Carl W. Allen of Evergreen, Ala; grandson, Glynn Allen Phillips; granddaughter, Jennifer Phillips; grandson, Michael Brown; and four great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, March 9, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Martha Kries. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to North Georgia Mountains Hospice.
