The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces Funeral Services for Mr. James Everett Cone, age 81, of Blairsville who passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2017.
Jim was a native of Ft. Pierce, Florida, and had lived in Blairsville since 2002, moving here from Ellenwood, Georgia. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville. Jim was a "man's man"....a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was strong and courageous....a man who loved his family. He was always a "cowboy", and friends and family knew Jim not only talked the talk, but he walked the walk. Jim was well-loved by his many friends and will be greatly missed. A son, Timothy Lee Cone, had preceded Jim in death.
Family members left behind to carry on Jim's legacy are: his wife, Barbara Freer Cone, of Blairsville; children: Keith Cone, of Hiawassee, Georgia; James D. Cone, of McDonough, Georgia; Gary L. Cone, of Union, Missouri; William Freer and his wife, Johnetta, of Smyrna, Georgia; Lavette Cone, of Jefferson City, Missouri; Annette Freer, of Blairsville; Melody Anderson, of St. Louis, Missouri; brother, Wayne Cone, of Cornelia, Georgia; sister, Alma June Clements, of Okeechobee, Florida; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren also share his legacy.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF BLAIRSVILLE SANCTUARY with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Military honors will be conducted by North Georgia Honor Guard, and the American Legion Riders, from Post 121 in Blairsville and Post 23 in Hiawassee will provide an escort. Tennessee Patriot Guard will also have a motorcycle escort. Interment will follow at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:30 until 9 p.m.
Flowers are being accepted; however, if you wish, you may make memorials to the Special Olympics, or to Union County Volunteer Fire Department.
