Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. James A. Driskell, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Driskell was born in Atlanta, on May 30, 1925, a son of the late James C. Driskell and the late Bertha L. Garmon Driskell. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain, and served his country proudly during World War II. Mr. Driskell was of the Methodist faith, and was a member of the Masons, the National Rifle Association, and the Lions Club. James had been a firefighter with the Fulton County Fire Department, and later was an insurance agent. His wife Jane passed away in 1990, and a grandchild, Taylor Rainey, also passed away in 2007. Mr. Driskell lived in Powder Springs, Georgia, and later moved to the Blairsville area in 1995.
James will be missed by all who knew him, and will be especially missed by his loving family members: Companion, Dorothy Ridling; daughter, Janet D. Langston, of Cartersville, Georgia; daughter, Linda Sheridan, of Springhill, Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" Driskell, and wife Betty, of Maylene, Alabama; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Denise Driskell, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl Rainey and her husband, Robbie of Canton, Georgia; eleven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Driskell have been scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating. The family has selected the following gentlemen to serve as pallbearers: Morgan Driskell, Bill Driskell, Michael Driskell, Robbie Rainey, Jim Driskell, and Paul Bowlin. Burial will be in Powder Springs Memorial Garden in Powder Springs, Georgia, on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Doug Smith officiating at graveside. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 11, 2013, between the hours of 6 until 8 p.m.
