James Douglas Johnson, age 71 of Murphy, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his home. Doug was born Sunday, August 1, 1937 in Cherokee Co., N.C. to the late Sheridan Johnson and the late Jerdie Mae Brooks Johnson. He was an active member of Tomotly Baptist Church and Good Neighbor Car Club, enjoyed restoring antique cars and making knives. He was a veteran of the US Military. He was preceded in death by brother, Russell Johnson.
Survivors include: wife, Patricia Louise Johnson, daughter, Teena Hedrick of Kingston, TN, son, Jason Carroll of Murphy, sister & brother in law, Jeanette & Tommy Atkinson of Blairsville, sister & brother in law, Jean & Joyce Martin of Murphy, brother in law, Larry & Linda Johnson of Murphy, step-son, Tim Panter of Murphy, step-daughter & husband, Donna & Keith Kitchens of Hayesville, grandchildren, Steven & Anna Hedrick, and step grandchildern Logan & wife Samanntha Panter , Alex Panter, Josh , Keisha, and Jacob Kitchens, great grandson Gabe Gabe Panter and several nieces and nephews & friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 8:00PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Harold Stiles and Reverend Calvin Murphy officiating. Eulogy's will be given by Joe Stott & Carol. Music will be provided by Bob Leatherwood, Carol Hogsed, Hoyt Palmer, Ashley Powell & Diana Deputy. Interment will follow in Tomotla Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Keith Kitchens, Tim Panter, Bobby Owenby, Lloyd Cash, Lowell Jones, Kenneth Higgins. Honorary pallbearers include: Marvin Hawkins, Allen Hawkins and Tony Rhodes.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 12 from 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Tomotla Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
