Mr. James David "JD" Yonce, age 86 of Murphy, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Murphy Medical Center. Mr. Yonce was born March 24, 1926 in Macon County, NC to the late Osborne and Ida Willis Yonce. J.D. served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War and he was a member of the local American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed working on tractors in his spare time. A member of the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his parents, Osborne and Ida Yonce, Brothers, Roy "Gene" Yonce and Carl Yonce, Sister, Nell Pannell, infant Sister, Peggy Ann Yonce.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy "Dot" Walsh Yonce, Son, David Bruce (Jan) Yonce, Daughter, Sharon Hunsucker, Daughter, Diane Dockery, Daughter, Dottie (Tony) Raxter, Brother, Bill Yonce, Brother, Paul Yonce, Brother, Harold Yonce, Sister, Grace Tallent, Sister-in-law, Lee Yonce, also grandchildren, Jessica Mashburn, Chris Dockery, Christa Dockery, Graham Raxter, Brittany Luther and Kyle Hunsucker, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Raxter officiating. Interment followed in the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard, Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812. Pallbearers include Chris Dockery, Graham Raxter, Brian Luther, Ryan Mashburn, James "Jimbo" Yonce and Eric Yonce. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Yonce, Kenneth Pannell, Allen Pannell, Ronnie Norton, Jamie Dockery, Adam Yonce ,Tommy Yonce and Bobby Yonce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peachtree Cemetery fund, c/o Jim Hendrix, 3195 Old Peachtree Rd., Murphy NC 28906 or to the American Legion Post 96, Murphy NC 28906.
