J. L. Callihan, 99, of Snellville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Hope Center in Dacula, GA. J.L. was born June 7, 1923, in McCaysville, GA to James and Bessie Callihan.
J.L. was preceded in death by spouse, Helen Callihan; father, James Callihan; mother, Bessie Callihan; son, Richard Callihan; and grandson, Cooper Bulloch
He is survived by his daughter Linda (Bo) Bulloch; grandsons Jordan (Virginia) Gogan, Reed (Erin) Gogan and Blake (Megan) Callihan; granddaughter Julie Callihan; and daughter-in-law Tammy Callihan. He was a proud ”Great Pop” to his loving great grandchildren, Bryce and Brynn Gogan; Elam and Willow Gogan; and Elizabeth Callihan.
J.L. loved his family, his Helen, his strong Callihan family history and the United States Marine Corps. In his later years, he loved gardening and working with hands, especially cars, woodworking and his clocks. He loved sharing his stories of times past with anyone who was willing to listen and to anyone who knew him knew his memories never escaped him, even in his decline.
He was a proud Marine and served in WWII in action in Bouganville, BSI, Guam, Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima, Japan.
J.L. and Helen enjoyed traveling with friends after retirement.
Funeral Service, Saturday September 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev Terry Callihan officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Jordan Gogan, Reed Gogan, Jim Helton, Scott Satterfield, Blake Callihan, Jerry Williams.
The family will receive friends at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Friday September 2, 2022, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
