Iva Delilah Parker Norton, age 83 of Ducktown, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Heritage Health Care Of Blue Ridge. She was born July 27, 1930 in Morganton, GA to the late Joseph William Parker and the late Stella Jane Underwood Parker . She was preceded in death by brothers J.D. Parker, Joe Parker, James Parker and Prince Parker, sisters, Jewel, Pearl and Ruby. She was also preceded in death by her husband Johnie Norton and son Gerald Norton.
She is survived by: daughter, Connie (Keith) Brice of Hogansville, daughter, Brenda and the late Ben Coats of Ducktown , son, J. Keith (Danella Lee) Norton of Virginia, son, Kerry (Carolyn) Norton of Blue Ridge, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She had many joys in her life, first and foremost was her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of the East Point Church of God for 33 years and upon moving back to the area, a member at McCaysville Church of God. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed any time spent with them, especially if a good game of Rummy was played. She loved writing poetry and songs about her faith and family. Several poems were published in various magazines and at least two of her songs were recorded by gospel artists. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and took pride in all of her children and their accomplishments. She was dearly loved and will truly be missed by all.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Finch-Cochran Funeral Home in McCaysville with internment at the Norton section of Cherry Log Cemetery with the Rev. Edgar Waters officiating. The family will visit with family and friends on Saturday, from 1:30 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm
