Ida Mae Thomas, age 96 of the Kingtown section of McCaysville, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the age of 96.
Ida Mae was born February 13, 1917 in Reliance, TN to the late L.C. Goss and Eliza Jane Hammons Goss. At a young age, her family moved to Copperhill, where she excelled as a student at Copperhill High School. She graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1935. Ida Mae was a member of the school's Utopia Club. She was an outstanding member of the nursing profession for more than 50 years.
At the time of her death, Ida Mae was the oldest living member of Kingtown Baptist Church. Ida Mae married Roy R. Thomas. They had five children: Barbara Jeannine (deceased), Robert Eugene of Copperhill, Joseph Terry of Epworth, Peggy Eileen of Marietta, and Ronald Stephen of the home. She had nine grandchildren; Phyllis Norris, Janice Rolan, Amy Harbison, Constance Harris, Susan Leach, Billy Brackett and Brooke Townsend. She was blessed with many great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
