The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces the death of Mr. Hubert Alan Jones, age 72, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Jones was born on February 20, 1941, in Utica, New York, to the late Hubert Cornelius Jones and the late Emilie Wagner Jones. He graduated from Washing Lee High School in 1959 in Arlington, Virginia. After graduation, he attended Michigan State, where he studied H and L Restaurant Management. Hubert worked from the Marriot Corporation, in the Washington, DC and Maryland area. In 1970 his wish came true with his own restaurant, "The Ferns", in Old Forge, New York. Later he managed the restaurants at "South of the Border", with locations in North and South Carolina. In the 1980's he opened Pizza Country USA in Calabash, North Carolina. He loved it and loved working with young people. In the 1990's he moved to Blairsville to help his parents due to health problems. He opened "Tri-State Sports" at the "Hillbilly Mall" in Andrews, North Carolina, selling sports memorabilia. His greatest love was cooking and talking with people. He enjoyed conversing with them about sports, or 50's and 60's music. Family was very important to him, and his best and loyal friend, "Jesse", his beloved black lab.
Hubert will be missed by so many who knew and loved him, but most especially by his family : sister, Beth Hiers and her husband, Bob, of Winter Haven, Florida; and nephews: Christopher Hiers, of Lakeland, Florida, and Chance and Carter Hiers; and nephew Dana Hiers and his wife, Jamie, of Eagle Lake, Florida, and Ethan and Megan Hiers; Aunt, Thelma Jones, of Daytona Beach, Florida; and cousins Michael Jones, Steve Jones and Barbara Coleman; his uncle, Richard Ames, of Fayetteville, New York; and cousins Jennifer, Marcia and John Ames; his uncle and aunt, Fred and Anita Wagner, of Arlington, Virginia; and cousins Paul and Karen Wagner.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
