Mr. Howard Woodrow Bryant, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Bryant was born Tuesday, August 16, 1921 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Ed Grady and Beulah Queen Bryant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Union County. As a United States Marine he helped fight many battles in the South Pacific during World War II, including Iwo Jima, Bougainville, Saipan, Guam and Guadal Canal. He received several medals for bravery, including two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was owner and operator of Bryant's Garage for many years. He was a loving husband to his late wife Dorothy Sullivan Bryant for 57 years. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lorene Mason and his two brothers, A.J. and Ford Bryant.
His survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Ken McClure of Sparta, GA, son, Michael Bryant of Blairsville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Pam and Tommy Jordan of Blairsville, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Keith and Becky Bryant of Blairsville, GA, sister & brother-in-law, Pauline & Ron Taylor of Blairsville, GA, sister, Lucille Warren of Atlanta, GA, sister, Bonnie Thomas of Blairsville, GA, granddaughter, Lynn & Tony Heard of Loganville, GA, granddaughter, Kay & Jeff Coots of Commerce, GA, grandson, Joe & Brittany Jordan of Blairsville, GA, grandson Jordan Bryant of Blairsville, GA, great grandchildren, Blake & Kennedy Heard of Loganville, GA and Brandon, Ashley & Paytton Coots of Commerce, GA
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2007 from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Serving as pallbearers are: Michael Bryant, Keith Bryant, Jordan Bryant, Joe Jordan, Brandon Coots, Tommy Jordan, Ken McClure and Tony Heard. Mr. Bryant will be laid to rest in the Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery next to his sweetheart Dorothy with Military Honors provided by the U. S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Flowers will be accepted but if you wish, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Union County children and youth, in his memory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday evening.
