The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Horace Clinton Starnes, age 90 of Forest Park, Georgia, formally of Blairsville, who passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
Mr. Starnes was born in Kennesaw, Georgia on May 16, 1922 to the late Henry and Ann McMickens Starnes. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Horace was a member of Trackrock Baptist Church in Blairsville before moving to be closer to his children. Horace was a humble man who was easygoing and never argumentative. Gifted with patience and a servants heart; he would display kindness to everyone he met. Stemming from his Naval Service, Horace kept high standards of appearance and organization. He loved to sing at Sunday church service. He enjoyed his coffee and believed that "no meal was complete without something sweet!" He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Sexton Starnes.
He will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family: daughters and sons-in-law, Janice & Rick Johnson and Karen & Dwight Haney, both of Morrow, Georgia; three grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Starnes will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Denny Moss and Rev. Wade Plott officiating. Special Music will be presented by The Moss Family. Interment will be in Trackrock Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Brandon Haney, Larry Johnson, Jantson Haney, Loy Cook, Jerry Cook and Herman Garrett. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 pm until the service hour.
